Parking on public holidays
It's free to park in the central city on public holidays. There is no time limit.
How long you can park for
All metered Pay by Plate parks have maximum time restrictions.
Most metered parks are limited to 120 minutes (P120) 8am–5pm, and 180 minutes (P180) from 5–8pm Monday to Friday. On Saturday and Sunday most metered parks are limited to 180 minutes, 8am–8pm.
There are some metered 30-minute spaces (P30) near Wellington Railway Station and on Dixon Street which apply 7 days.
Check the parking meter screen for information about how long you can park for.
Note: Your time starts from the moment your vehicle enters the parking space, not from when your payment is made.

There are coupon parking spaces on the fringes of the city where you can park up to 2 hours for free, or buy a coupon to park longer.
