How long you can park for
All Pay by Space parks have time restrictions.
Most metered parks are limited to 120 minutes (P120) 8am-5pm, and 180 minutes (P180) from 5-8pm Monday to Friday. On Saturday and Sunday most metered parks are limited to 180 minutes, 8am-8pm.
There are some 30-minute spaces (P30) near Wellington Railway Station which apply 7 days.
Check the parking meter screen for information about how long you can park for.
Note: Pay by Space parks have a sensor installed in the ground. This means your time starts from the moment your vehicle enters the parking space, not from when payment is made.
Medium term parking
4-hour metered parking is available at Freyberg Car Park and Clyde Quay Car Park. Check the parking meter screen for information about how long you can park for.
Longer term parking
12-hour Pay by Space parking is available on Oriental Parade, Kent Terrace, Cambridge Terrace, Thorndon Quay, Hutt Road, Kelburn Parade, Salamanca Road and Glasgow Street.
All day parking (12-14 hours) is available at Barnett Street Carpark.
Check the parking meter screen for information about how long you can park for.
Self-contained campervan overnight parking is available at Barnett Street Car Park $30 per 24 hours.
Note: Because this area is used by the Harbourside Market on Sunday mornings, you can't park at Barnett St carpark overnight on a Saturday.
There are coupon parking spaces on the fringes of the city where you can park up to 2 hours for free, or buy a coupon to park longer.
