We are committed to conducting our day-to-day business openly and making decision-making processes and information available and accessible.
The Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA) is a legislative framework that enables public access to official information.
A central part of the LGOIMA is the of ‘principle of availability’, which states that “information shall be made available unless there is good reason for withholding it”. This principle fosters transparency and accountability, encouraging public participation in government decision-making.
You can make a LGOIMA request for any information that we hold, such as:
- council projects
- information you need to participate in a consultation
- the reason for a decision or our decision-making process
- Council Controlled Organisations and its Contractors
- our policies and procedures.
The Office of the Ombudsman provides information about making a LGOIMA request for official information and guidance to follow.
If you are not satisfied with our response to your request for official information, you can complain to the Office of the Ombudsman.
