Voters by age

Older people were significantly more likely to vote, by percentage.

  • The highest turnout in terms of age was the group 81–85, at 71%
  • The lowest voter turnout group in terms of age was 21–25, at 32%

However, there were much larger numbers of voters in the younger demographic, so the total number of young voters was still quite high.

Māori roll vote

35% of voters on the Māori roll voted, whereas 46% of voters on the general roll voted. This was the first time that voters had the opportunity to vote in the Māori ward.

Voting is similar across age groups for Māori and non-Māori.

Voters by suburb

  • Seatoun had the highest voter turnout, at 58%
  • Mount Cook had the lowest voter turnout, at just under 30%
  • The average number of electors per neighbourhood is around 2,000 people
  • The suburb with the highest turnout of Māori voters was in Karaka Bay-Worser Bay, and the suburb with the lowest turnout of Māori voters was Linden
  • The suburb with the highest turnout of non-Māori voters was Island Bay East at 58.2%, and the suburb with the lowest non-Māori turnout was Mount Cook East, at 30.7%
