Renewing your food registration certificate

By 2019 your business will be operating under the new Act.

The food licence registration year has traditionally run from July to July. During the month of June all existing businesses will be sent a renewal form and an invoice for the coming licensing year. Complete this form, and send it back. When we have received the form and payment we'll send our your new certificate.

Registering under the new Food Act (2014)

The Food Act 2014 came into effect on 1 March 2016.  By 28 February 2019, all food businesses will need to be operating under the new Act. When you need to transition depends on the type of business you have. Existing business will be sent a letter when it is time to renew registrations. You can choose to transition earlier, in which case you will need to fill out an application for registration under the Food Act 2014.

Check with the Ministry of Primary Industries for information on when you need to sign up by.

Taking over an existing food premises

A food registration certificate cannot be transferred to a new owner. If you are planning to take over a food business, you will need to complete an application for registration under the Food Act 2014.
