Location: Continues along the Mount Victoria ridgeline.
Entrance and exit points: The scenic drive along Alexandra Road, Southern Walkway, or Hataitai to City track.
Brief description: The ridgeline along which the Southern Walkway runs was known in pre-European times as Te Ranga a Hiwi – the hill ridge of Hiwi.
The Mount Alfred area now has a network of tracks popular with walkers, runners and mountain bikers (Hataitai to City track, Newtown to Hataitai track, and the Southern Walkway).
A picnic table was recently installed and offers a sheltered spot for a bite to eat.
Parking: Parking limited on Alexandra Road.
Accessibility: Short walk on a well-formed track from Alexandra Road.
Dogs: Dogs must be kept on a leash.
Mountain biking: Mt Albert takes in part of the Super D circuit and a couple of short, rooty sections including the infamous Rod's Drop, which has now been closed except during events. Also includes the Southern Walkway which is rideable here.
History: The ridgeline is made up of a series of significant sites – Mount Alfred was the site of Te Akatarewa Pa, an old stockaded village inhabited by Ngai Tara.
