Resident parking areas allow people who live in busy streets to park near their homes. To park in a resident parking area, you need a permit.
How resident parking permit works
A resident parking permit allows you to park in either resident or coupon parking spaces in your area.
Eligible residents can apply for a maximum of:
- two resident parking permits per household, or
- one resident parking permit per household in a multi-unit dwelling (three or more units at one address)
If the maximum number of resident parking permits has already been issued to your household, you may be eligible for a coupon exemption permit.
A coupon parking exemption permit allows you to park in coupon parking spaces in your area – you can't park in resident parking spaces. There is no coupon parking exemption permit limit per household.
Resident and coupon parking spaces are clearly signposted and our parking officers monitor them to make sure they are only used by permit holders. Having a permit does not guarantee you a parking space.
Resident parking areas
To be eligible for a resident parking, the main residence you live in must be within a resident parking area:
*Note for Kelburn residents: Only Central Terrace residents can use their resident permit on Central Terrace, where a Special Street Scheme operates.
**Note for Miramar South residents: 24-hour parking restrictions apply. Residents within this zone can apply for one exemption permit per household at no cost. Your permit is valid from the day your application is approved; however you must wait until you get the approval email before parking in the coupon parking spaces in your designated zone.
