If your dog dies, let us know this sad news as soon as possible so we can remove your dog from our register – send an email with your dog’s details to: dogs@wcc.govt.nz
You may qualify for a refund of the registration fee.
Request a refund
To request a refund, email dogs@wcc.govt.nz with proof of your dog’s death – either a copy of the vet’s verification or return the registration tag by post or at our Service Centre
You'll also need to include your bank account details:
- a copy of your bank deposit slip, or
- a copy of your bank statement header showing the account holder's name, account number, and the bank’s logo, or
- a screenshot showing the account holder's name, account number, and the bank’s logo from your internet banking site.
Alternatively, you can ask for your refund to be donated to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
How the refund is calculated
Refunds are calculated from the date you let us know about your dog’s death, and the number of full months left on the registration - from 1 July to 30 January.
