The Newlands Community Centre is a multi-purpose, warm and welcoming community centre. It plays host to social gatherings, meetings and various classes.

The purpose-built facility opened in November 2009 with a blessing from a kaumātua from Ngā Hau e Whā o Paparārangi. Initially a community initiative, Council designers worked with representatives of several local groups to come up with an concept for the centre.

The drop-in lounge is open for the community to share a cup of tea or coffee, use the free internet computers, read the newspaper, or just relax and chat with others.

No DJs or live bands or loud music after 10.00pm.

What's on

General parking is available, Monday to Friday 9.00am - 3.00pm. A mobility car park is at the side of the building, available at all times.


Accessible ramps to the building. Access to the first floor is via a lift. There are accessible toilets in the community centre, and mobility parking.


The centre includes: a toy library, drop-in space, meeting rooms, performance area, and food bank.

Kitchen: Fridge, oven, microwave, dishwasher, hot water zip and urns.

Equipment: Whiteboard.

Hireable rooms: Four meeting rooms including:

  • Performance hall: Seats up to 100 people; 100 chairs, 15 trestle tables
  • Large meeting room: Seats up to 40 people; 40 chairs, 3 trestle tables
  • Medium-size meeting room: Seats up to 10 people; 2 tables, 10 chairs
  • Youth Room: seats up to 30 people: 3 couches, 20 chairs, trestle tables available on request.

Outdoors: Basketball half-court.
