Vacant properties refurbishment

20 empty properties will be refurbished to modern standards.

Background

As part of the Council’s commitment to provide social housing in Wellington, we are commencing refurbishment of 20 vacant properties in the city. This project is part of the Council’s Housing Upgrade Programme Phase 2 (HUP2).

We will refurbish the empty properties up to modern standards to be healthy, dry and safe.

The project will see 20 vacant properties refurbished:

  • 82 Buckley Road, Southgate
  • 84 Buckley Road, Southgate
  • 86 Buckley Road, Southgate
  • 100 Buckley Road, Southgate
  • 102 Buckley Road, Southgate
  • 104 Buckley Road, Southgate
  • 106 Buckley Road, Southgate
  • 129 Buckley Road, Southgate
  • 133 Tauhinu Road, Miramar
  • 134 Tauhinu Road, Miramar
  • 135 Tauhinu Road, Miramar
  • 136 Tauhinu Road, Miramar
  • 137 Tauhinu Road, Miramar
  • 132 Coutts Street, Kilbirnie
  • 49 Daniell Street, Newtown
  • 140 Owen Street, Newtown
  • 52 McKinley Crescent, Brooklyn
  • 218 Wilton Road, Wilton

Two properties beyond economic repair will be demolished:

  • 132 Tauhinu Road, Miramar
  • 121 Maupuia Road, Miramar

What’s next

The refurbishment and demolition works have started. It is expected to be completed towards the end of 2025. The works may include:

  • Interior and exterior refurbishment
  • Underground / drain repair works
  • Structural remediation
  • Demolition of building structures and foundations

There will be minimal disruption to local residents. Traffic management will be provided when required.
