Massey Road seawall renewal

We’re replacing an existing seawall that supports part of Massey Road.

About the project

An 86-metre long seawall opposite 270 Massey Road in Mahanga Bay needs to be replaced to maintain the support of the road above it. The renewed seawall will ensure the resilience of the coastal transport route.

This work involves the demolition and removal of the existing wall, earthworks, installation of a new concrete mass block wall, road reinstatement, installation of a new safety barrier, drainage improvements and reinstatement of habitats.

Construction work will begin on Monday 12 May and is expected to be complete by the end of September 2025.

Traffic management

Working hours will be Monday to Friday from 7am – 6pm.

During construction, traffic management will be operational around the worksite. The road will remain open for vehicle, cyclist and pedestrian access for the majority of the project duration, with the road reduced to a single lane under Manual Traffic Control and a reduced speed limit. Pedestrian thoroughfare will remain at all times.
