Wellington Consolidated Bylaw 2008

This consolidated bylaw includes Fire and Smoke Nuisance (part 3) and Alcohol Control (part 4).

Originally, this consolidated bylaw had 10 parts. Parts 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 have been removed and/or replaced:

Part 2: Animals was replaced by the Animal Bylaw 2024.
Part 5: Public Places was replaced by the Public Places Bylaw 2022.
Part 6: Speed Limits was revoked. You can search for speed limits on the National Speed Limit Register operated by Waka Kotahi.
Part 7: Traffic was replaced with the Traffic and Parking Bylaw 2021.
Part 8: Water Services was replaced by the Water Services Bylaw 2024.
Part 9: Waste Management was replaced by the Solid Waste Management and Minimisation Bylaw 2020.
Part 10: Structures in Public Places – Verandahs was revoked and relevant clauses have been included in the Public Places Bylaw 2022.

Part 1: Introduction

Provides for good governance in administering the Council's affairs and gives the provisions common to all parts of the Consolidated Bylaw.

To protect the public from the nuisance arising from fire and smoke, in regard to aspects other than fire safety.

To control the consumption or possession of alcohol in public places to reduce alcohol-related harm.
