Visit requests
Visit requests are to be submitted to the International Relations team at Wellington City Council at least 8 weeks before the requested date.
We will consider the strategic value, relevance and nature of the request, in line with the International Relations Policy and Council priorities.
We will review and assess all requests to ensure they demonstrate clear reciprocal benefits in the form of knowledge exchange and sharing of information related to issues important to the city.
The International Relations team will assess the request and liaise with relevant business units to determine interest and availability, and will consider the following when assessing applications:
- Time, dates and delegation members
- Obligations under current agreements or, reciprocal host requirements
- Alignment of the request or delegation with Council strategies and priorities
- Clearly demonstrated outcomes it seeks to achieve through its visit to Wellington
- Availability of Council officers
We reserve the right to accept or decline any requests based on the above assessment. We hope you will understand that any visits/meetings we can arrange depend on the availability of the Council staff in the business units you are interested in.
Logistics
Delegations will need to arrange their own logistics, travel and accommodation (except in specific sister city cases).
Interpreters
Presentations are given in English. If interpretation is required, this will be up to the
delegation or agent to arrange a professional and experienced interpreter.

We assess visit request and inform the delegation contact of the outcome.
Delegations should note that visits proposed between 19 December 2025 and 16 January 2026 will not be accepted due to the office closure for the Christmas/New Year period.
