Candidate statement

I have thoroughly enjoyed my two terms on the MOCB and looking ahead, road safety and roading improvements would continue to be a focus to ensure the community is a safe environment for our families. Another area of focus would be resilience, which would include improved flood protection measures.

Having lived in Ohariu Valley for 20 years, I appreciate how amazing and unique our beautiful environment is and what a fantastic community we live in. I do not take this for granted and would like the opportunity to be a part of preserving the rural amenity aspects we enjoy so much.

My career has been based around civil works, infrastructure and operations so I have a broad understanding and practical approach to such challenges. My wife and I also operate a productive deer farm in the valley and our children attend schools in Johnsonville.

Hamish Todd

Standing for:
Mākara-Ōhāriu Community Board

Affiliation:

Principal place of residence:
In the Mākara-Ōhāriu Community Board area

Candidate statement

I am seeking re-election to the MOCB to continue to focus on the following key issues that are facing our communities.

Roading; Ensuring that we receive adequate funding to maintain our roading network to meet the community requirements and continue to develop safer local roads for all users.

Subdivision; Following up with the council delegates to ensure the rural plans and regulations are followed to protect the rural nature of our communities.

Estuary; Working with the regional council to develop a commitment to maintaining the opening of the Makara stream. This needs urgent action to safeguard the residents of Makara Beach in the event of a major flood. It also needs on-going work to enhance the ecological aspects of the Makara estuary, which is silting up, causing more potential flooding.

In addition, MOCB discuss and consider other relevant community needs highlighted by our residents and related groups.
