Election information is available in alternative formats and different languages.

Voting paper delivery

Voting papers for the 2025 local body election will be delivered between 9 and 22 September 2025. Not everyone in the same household, street or community will receive their voting papers on the same day. Please be patient while votes are delivered.

Candidate booklets in alternative formats  

These audio, digital braille, and large print files include candidate statements for each candidate, as they are printed in the physical candidate booklets. Candidate statements in each ward are organised in alphabetical order.

Help to vote

If you’re physically impaired, unable to read or write or are not familiar with the language on the form, you may need help to vote.  

You can authorise someone you trust to mark the voting document for you following your instructions. You can also come to Te Awe Library, 29 Brandon Street Wellington and get help from electoral officials.

Telephone dictation service 

A confidential and secure telephone dictation voting service is available through our elections provider ElectioNZ for eligible disabled voters who may face barriers voting independently.  

The eligibility criteria is set out in the Local Electoral Amendment Regulations 2023. You may be eligible to use the telephone dictation service if it is not possible or practicable for you to cast an ordinary vote without hardship or undue inconvenience due to: 

  • Being blind 
  • Having a vision impairment that prevents you from marking your voting document without assistance 
  • Having another physical disability that prevents you from marking your voting document without assistance 

How to request the service

The special telephone dictation service is available for eligible disabled voters on weekdays between 9am - 4:30pm, from 9 September - 10 October 2025.  

Contact the dedicated call centre on 0800 666 040 to request access to this service. Your eligibility will be assessed first, and if approved, you can dictate your vote in the same phone call. 

Make sure you’re ready to vote before calling to help ensure an efficient process.

The Electoral Commission website has enrolment information in different languages.
