We're considering a Local Alcohol Policy to simplify the alcohol licensing process and help minimise harm caused by excessive or inappropriate consumption of alcohol in our community.
You can keep up to date on the policy development and view other documents on the Local Alcohol Policy page on our Let’s Talk website.
As a part of the development, we ran a panel survey with a sample of Wellington residents to find out about their consumption and attitudes towards alcohol.
The survey ran from 30 June to 15 July 2024. Participants were sampled from a combination of the Council's Capital Views panel and an external panel. The survey had 908 participants in total. The sample was post-weighted to be representative of Wellington City residents on the basis of age, gender, and ward.
Key topics covered in the survey include:
- alcohol consumption
- alcohol purchasing
- consumption/purchasing of no or low alcohol beverages
- personal attitudes towards alcohol
- attitudes towards alcohol in the community
- experiences with alcohol in the community
- views towards alcohol management
- experiences of harm.
