Motorcycle & scooter parking
There are specific places throughout the city where you can park your motorcycle or scooter.
Illegally parked motorcycles and scooters will be ticketed.
Where you can park your motorcycle or scooter
Where possible, park off the public road and use public and private parking facilities. This helps to free up space for other riders to come and go during the day.

Motorcycle and Scooter Parking Locations
In central Wellington you can park for free in locations signposted "No Stopping Except for Motorcycles". Check the signage as these vary.
Other Council car parks
As well as on-street parking in the central business district, you can park in these Council-managed car parks:
Where you can't park
You can't park:
- in any parking meter area controlled by a multiple parking meter, other than in any part specifically set aside for motorcycles (see Wellington Consolidated Bylaw 2008 – Part 7, 6.5)
- on footpaths
- at the ends of parallel parks
- by pedestrian crossings.
Illegally parked motorcycles and scooters will be ticketed. Check the parking rules that apply to all road users: Parking tickets
Current policy regarding motorcycle parking
Our policy regarding motorcycle parking is to maintain the current number of spaces, ideally reserving on-street facilities to support local business (short-term parking) rather than commuter (long-term) parking.
Creating more spaces or extending existing spaces is not on Council’s list of strategic priorities at present. Having said that, our Parking Policy is under review so motorcycle parking may be considered in that process.
