Johnston Hill loop

A 2 kilometre walk, taking about 1 hour to complete.

Johnston Hill is one of the most prominent peaks in the Outer Green Belt.

The forest in this area is dominated by tawa and kohekohe, with a number of old podocarps still above the canopy. The canopy is quite diverse with rewarewa, hinau and a number of other species.

Directions

From the large carpark at the top of Hatton Street in Karori, follow the track up through the regenerating native forest.

Head up to the top of Johnston Hill for stunning views over the whole city and down to the south coast.

One your way back down, turn to the right to complete the loop track which runs through lush native forest back to the carpark.
