Winners for Hidden Gardens 2021

  • First prize from our judges went to A Women’s Garden by Cheyney Biddlecombe.
  • Second prize from our judges went to The Conversation Pit by Sam Mills.
  • Third prize from our judges went to Serenity in the City by Callum Skene.
  • The People’s Choice Award goes to Corrin Imlach for BBQ Herb Garden.

Thanks to everyone for taking part in Hidden Gardens. All the gardens will still be in place over summer, so there’s still time to bring some kai for a picnic, spend time in the space and enjoy the beauty behind each one.

About the Apprenticeship

The garden apprenticeship is a 3 year programme where you complete a NZ Certificate in Horticulture (level 4) - Amenity.

The apprenticeship is a mix of learning all of the theory and practical elements of amenity horticulture.

The apprentices each spend four months rotating around Ōtari-Wilton’s Bush, Wellington Botanic Garden, and the Horticulture team during the different seasons. They learn from experienced trainers what it takes to look after all of our beautiful gardens and parks in Wellington.
