Waimapihi Reserve loop

The Waimapihi (formerly Polhill) Reserve loop is a 7.3km walk, taking about 2 hours. This walk has a common entry and exit point and is suitable for people with average fitness.

Directions

This loop walk starts at the small grassed area on Aro Street just before Holloway Road. Look for the Waimapihi Reserve sign. Towards the rear of the grassed area, you will see a sign pointing to the Transient track. Take this track uphill through the regenerating native bush. You will come to an open grassed area near a power pylon. Carry on uphill and you will see another sign pointing you further up the hill.

You are now walking through an open area. You will come to a junction with a sign that says Transient; go straight ahead into the bush following directions to Brooklyn Wind Turbine.

You will walk over a bridge and two boardwalks and come out of the bush to a view of the harbour.

Continue uphill from. You will walk past along flight of steps and then past one more intersection before you come to the intersection with the Highbury Fling Track. Follow the Highbury Fling to the sanctuary fence line. You will walk through the bush, with a few openings to see the city and harbour.

Keep an eye out for the native birds, including tīeke, toutouwai, hihi and kākā. When you come to the Zealandia / Karori Sanctuary fence line, turn right and head down the dirt road to George Denton Park Play Area. Walk across the park to where a track will take you downhill through the bush and out to Holloway Road. Turn left and walk back to Aro Street where you started.
