Removing your earthquake-prone building notice

These are the situations when we may approve the removal of your earthquake-prone building (EPB) notice.

If you have a Code Compliance Certificate (CCC)

When consented seismic strengthening work is complete and a CCC is issued, our Resilient Buildings team will review the documentation and remove the notice as soon as posible. You are not required to notify the Resilient Buildings Team when you receive your CCC.

We aim to approve the removal of EPB notices within 1-2 months of CCC being issued, however we can do it sooner on request. If you would like your notice to be urgently removed, email buildingresilience@wcc.govt.nz.

The EPB notice must be displayed on the main entrance/s of your building until the Council officially notifies you the notice can be removed.

If you don't have a Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) yet

If you don't have a CCC yet but the structural work has been completed, we may be able to remove your EPB notice in some cases where:

  • there is clear evidence that seismic strengthening work has been completed, and
  • the building no longer meets the criteria for being considered earthquake prone.

The Resilient Buildings Team makes the decision to remove EPB notices before CCC on a case-by-case basis.

You can email buildingresilience@wcc.govt.nz for further advice or to apply to have your notice removed.
