Car seats, known officially as 'child restraints', need to to be installed correctly in vehicles to keep children safe. With monthly checks conducted by Council and Police in 2023–24, over 50% of child restraints were not installed correctly.
For more information on car seats, go to the Waka Kotahi website where you can:
- check which standard your child restraint meets
- watch video guides for installing your child's car seat
- find a child restraint technician.
Child restraints have an expiry date – find out how to read a car seat date stamp on the SitTight website.
