New Year's Eve

We invite you to a free, fun evening of great music to bring in the New Year, in one of Wellington’s iconic locations.

Wellington’s waterfront New Year’s Eve celebration is on its way!

Get together with friends, whānau and fellow Wellingtonians for New Year’s Eve 2024 at Whairepo Lagoon.

There will be live music getting the party started at 8pm, followed by a kids’ countdown and short burst of fireworks at 9.30pm for the little ones who don’t want to miss out.

The entertainment continues at 10pm with Orchestra Wellington, until it’s time to count down for real!

The night and the year will end with a bang, with a 5-minutes fireworks display at 12 midnight.

Enjoy some kai before the festivities at the food truck court in Odlins Plaza (view on Google Maps), open from 5pm.

Accessibility

The Wellington waterfront and Whairepo Lagoon are accessible – the landscape is predominantly flat paved surfaces, excepting the seated areas.

Accessible toilets are available near Odlins Plaza (view on Google Maps).

The Te Papa Accessway (view on Google Maps) can be used as a drop-off and pick-up point. Alternatively, find mobility parking spaces in the central city.

Transportation

We encourage people to walk, bike, or use public transport to come to our waterfront events.

Buses, trains and harbour ferries will run on a special summer timetable from 26 December. For details, visit Metlink website.

Get ready for Wellington’s first New Year’s Eve Carnival! Brought to you by Courtenay Precinct, supported by Wellington City Council.

This vibrant all-inclusive dress up event is set to become one of the city’s annual New Year’s Eve draw cards – bringing thousands of people to celebrate in style. Combining world class hospitality with a diverse lineup of entertainment, outdoor dining, and show stopping acts to ring in the new year.
