Ben Hana 'Blanket Man' memorial as a symbol of Wellington's commitment to the vulnerable

Petition details

I am proposing that a memorial or statue be erected in the Courtney Place area as a symbol of Wellington City Council's commitment and promise to the homeless and vulnerable in our beautiful city.

Background information

Wellington street personality and icon Blanket Man has passed away and it is reported that he suffered from medical problems linked to alcohol and malnutrition. While many Wellingtonians have their own fond memories of Mr Hana, there is no denying that he represents a need for us to take better care of those in need. I hope that his death can prompt us as a city to do more for those most vulnerable in our society.
