We, the undersigned, request that Wellington City Council review the current 120 minute parking restriction that operates on Saturdays and Sundays in the Thorndon Coupon Parking Zone.
The current length of time is too short and constrictive on residents who wish to have guests from outside the area, especially as the parking restrictions apply until 9 pm.
A review, as per the one undertaken for Thorndon Quay for the November 25th Strategy & Policy Meeting, should be undertaken.
On 25 November 2010, Council met to vote on proposed changes on parking in Thorndon Quay, which would extend 90 minute parks to 120 minutes.
The 90 minute zones in Thorndon Quay were established to protect businesses from the stadium; I can imagine similar logic was behind the current parking policy in Thorndon Coupon Parking Zone. Thorndon Quay was reviewed and it was found that stadium events had no affect on local businesses.
This petition closed for signatures on 1 February 2011.
The petition was presented to the Strategy and Policy Committee on 17 February 2011.
