Street Lighting of Middleton Road Between Glenside and Tawa

Petition details

I am petitioning Council to provide adequate street lighting to Middleton Road between Glenside and Tawa. As a cyclist there is insufficient lighting to safely negotiate this stretch of road at night. There are a number of small slips each winter leaving rocks and debris strewn across the road and cycle lighting is not able to pick up these hazards until it is too late. This is the only stretch of road available to get from Wellington to Tawa and north. There are no alternatives.

Background information

Last winter I experienced several issues with hitting rocks and getting flat tyres. I could not see to fix the flats so had to walk a Kilometer or so to the nearest street light to effect repairs. I even got knocked off my bike as a motorist failed to see me in time and brushed beside me. This is a health and safety issue and I think its only a matter of time before someone gets killed.
