Petition details
WCC have made a controversial decision, to implement paid parking for motorcycles & scooters, despite substantial opposition. A staggering 80% of submissions were opposed to the idea, showing just how little respect some councillors have for the opinions of the public. It’s being rushed through, as some new mayoral candidates also oppose the idea.
The only city in NZ to do so, the following fees will be introduced: $1 an hour, capped at $6 a day or $30 a week. Fees start on the 1st of July.

Background information
Motorcycles & scooters offer an affordable mode of transport for many, new fees will impact people on low-incomes, students & those with limited public transport options. Motorcycles & scooters are vital to maintain an efficient flow of traffic in the city & unlike cars, produce less emissions, which are more environmentally friendly. In a time where cities worldwide are striving to become more sustainable, the WCC should be a leader & promote more eco-friendly transport options.
