The Japan Festival happens every two years in Wellington and is a celebration of Wellington’s international relations with Japan and our Sister City Sakai.
It brings Japanese culture and businesses to the capital for an array of spectacular events.
At the Festival members of Wellington’s Japanese community join visiting experts and performers to showcase traditional and contemporary Japanese culture.
The Festival includes non-stop stage entertainment, exhibitions, cultural and food stalls and workshops. It is organised by Wellington City Council, the Embassy of Japan and the Wellington Japan Festival Trust and is sponsored by the Kansai Osaka 21st Century Association and the Asia New Zealand Foundation.
