Wadestown Community Centre

Wadestown Community Centre on Pitt Street has an additional community space at nearby Wadestown Library.

Centre closure

As a result of decisions in the Council’s 24-34 Long-Term Plan, the Wadestown Community Centre is now closed.

Built in 1905 to house a local Working Men’s Club, the building was the home of the Wadestown Library from 1932 until 1985 when the current library was built.

It has been run as a small community centre ever since, formerly hosting a community crèche (now closed) for 30 years, and the Wadestown Toy library (ongoing) during school terms, as well as other activities and classes.

The Wadestown Community Centre is located at 46 Pitt Street, Wadestown (up the hill off Lennel Road).

Parking

Limited parking is available as it is a residential area.

Accessibility

There is a ramp leading to the centre, but building access is not easy. No disability toilet.

Facilities

  • Kitchen: Shared kitchen facilities including refrigerator, oven, microwave, dishwasher, some crockery and cutlery.
  • Open area: Seats 40 people; 40 chairs, four card tables and two trestle tables are available. There is currently no Wi-Fi access at the centre.
  • Outdoors: An outside deck opens off the centre.
  • Mezzanine floor: Ideal for small meetings or workshops.

Wadestown community space

This is a small separate open Community Lounge area inside Wadestown Library (corner Moorhouse Street and Lennel Road).

The Community Space is a warm and welcoming space, suitable for small informal meetings or events.

There is seating available for 20 people and the mobile bookshelves can be moved to create more space.

A mobile tv and screen are available for audio-visual events

The space is also a hub for local information.
