Nestled in the town belt in Mt Victoria, Innermost Gardens has been connecting community through hands in the soil for about 18 years.

Tanera Gardens

Ki hea | Where 47 Mortimer Terrace, Tanera Park, Owhiro Road, Brooklyn

Gardeners will show visitors their gardens and discuss their top crops and flop crops, sharing and happily receiving advice on how to grow bigger vegetables and flowers and control of weeds and pests. For the kids we will make paper pots and plant them for winter vegetable seedlings to grow at home. Refreshments will be available.

There are no toilet facilities.

Te Māramatanga

Āhea | When  1pm – 2pm: garden talk

Find out how this inner-city community garden is working with and for the community to build hopeful futures. Join us to learn about community composting, growing, sharing kai in open spaces and working with public organisations and landowners. Come with an open mind, plenty of questions and a bag for some homegrown soil and/or some kai from the garden. There will be access to facilities and space to fill your water bottles and share any additional korero with members of the community garden over tea and a biscuit at BGI, 3 MacDonald Crescent, after the talk.

Kaicycle Urban Farm & Composting

Āhea | When 10am and 12pm: official farm tours

Come along and visit Wellington's central city urban farm. We'll have staff onsite to show you around, or you are welcome to explore the māra and ask questions at your own speed. Drop by anytime over the day or join an official farm tour. We'll have a station where you can pot up a seedling to take back to your own garden and a do-it-yourself scavenger hunt for tamariki.

Kaicycle is wheelchair accessible and we have a Portaloo available on site. Please note that we do have beehives.

Island Bay Community Centre Community Garden

Ki hea | Where 137 The Parade, Island Bay
Āhea | When 2pm – 3.30pm

Please come and join us for Tea and Cake in the Garden and have a look at what we grow here. There will be a chance to talk to the gardeners, hear about the new Pātaka Kai which is being launched by the Island Bay Residents’ Association outside Tapu Te Ranga Island Bay Library, try some delicious teas and eat cake.

The Play Box will be open to keep the tamariki entertained, so bring the whole whanau with you.

Houghton Valley Community Garden

Ki hea | Where Enter through the native forest walk next to/immediately north of 104 Houghton Bay Road. The garden is located between the forest and the Houghton Valley School playground.

View our common plots with vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers; meet the volunteer gardeners. Relax in our popular viewing corner and observe the birds, bees, butterflies and insects. See a display of summer and autumn plant dyes on cloth examples. Enter a draw to win a mixed floral/herb/vegetable bouquet!

Miramar and Maupuia Community Centre

Miramar Prison Garden

Ki hea | Where 1 Main Road, Miramar

Enjoy a self-guided tour of the historic Miramar Prison Garden with a warm drink and honey from our bees. There will be family-friendly activities and opportunities to learn more about the history of Mātai Moana / Mount Crawford. Workshops will also be available.

The garden is accessible on the number 24 bus route.

Te Kawakawa Commons

Ki hea | Where 42 Hornsey Road, Melrose

Te Kawakawa Commons is a small hidden gem of a garden with beautiful walking tracks and lots of bird life. Come explore the tracks, admire the vegetable garden over a hot drink and a muffin, check out the children's art trail, and take away a baby ti kouka/cabbage tree seedling, a succulent, or some bee-friendly wildflower seeds – all collected from our patch.

It is recommended to take the number 23 bus which stops nearby, as car parking is limited.

This garden is not wheelchair accessible.
