1. Get your hands on some buns

How good is a toasted hot cross bun dripping in butter? Why not go on a hunt for the best hot cross buns in Wellington?

WellingtonNZ has done the ground work and put together a list of places to check out in the city.

2. Wander through galleries and museums

Spend a day browsing the halls of City Gallery Wellington and taking in the art exhibitions on show. Over Easter weekend, the gallery will be open every day from 10am.

If you’re wanting to keep exploring the city, you can also head to the Wellington Museum and Cable Car Museum – both are open from 10am to 5pm throughout Easter.

3. Discover something new in the city

Wellington is jam-packed with lots of nature, epic views, and places to explore. With a few days up your sleeve, why not head out on a new adventure around the capital? Check out our top picnic spots, and the great walks and beaches on offer in Pōneke.

4. Join the Community Pools Easter egg hunt!

Tamariki aged 3 years to 10 years can join the Community Pools team from 10am on Saturday 8 April to take part in an Easter egg hunt. The kids will collect tokens hidden in our children's pool when they go for a swim and trade them for some yummy chocolate Easter eggs.

Find out more on the Facebook event.

5. Chill out at home

Take time out this Easter weekend by streaming or reading any of the thousands of movies, documentaries, book and magazines from the Wellington City Libraries elibrary for free!

Don’t forget all libraries will be closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, and open as usual on the Saturday.

Take note of changes to services and facilities over the Easter weekend

Our services and facilities change slightly on public holidays, so just a reminder that:

  • There will be no rubbish and recycling collected on Good Friday (7 April), so please put it out on Saturday 8 April instead. Collections will happen as per normal on Easter Monday (10 April).
  • On street metered Parking is free around Wellington on public holidays: Good Friday (7 April) and Easter Monday (10 April)
  • Some facilities and services may have reduced hours or may be closed, you can find these out on our holiday hours webpage.

Watch out each Friday for a fun list of five great activities to do, places to explore, or things to discover in our awesome city.
