1. Spend the afternoon at Grasslees Reserve

Tucked away near the centre of Tawa is Grasslees Reserve – a family favourite for locals! There’s plenty to do and see in the area with a playground, gardens, a dog exercise area, electric barbecues and Tawa Pool. Why not spend the afternoon with the whānau there?

2. Trek up Te Ngahere-o-Tawa

Not many people know about this hidden track off Kiwi Crescent, which has recently been upgraded as a shared path for walkers and people on bikes! It takes you on a lovely uphill track through luscious bush and redwoods, and links up to Colonial Knob, Spicer Botanical Park or into Ohariu Valley – giving you options for a short walk or a day trip.

3. Roll on over to Tawa Skate Park

Tawa Skate Park has a fresh new look and feel, with awesome new skating elements from fire hydrants to slappie curbs and a flat area for beginners. Head down to check it out and give skateboarding a go!

4. Satisfy your sweet tooth

Tawa is home to the infamous Nada Bakery and cafe – a Wellington favourite since 1975. With exquisite freshly baked goods, you’re going to want to come back for more.

Don’t stop there – just down the road is Urban Eatery, known for their delicious donuts and sweet treats, and of course the Pink Pineapple, another local gem!

5. Adventure down the Ara Tawa Pathway

Whether you’re walking, biking, or skating, the Ara Tawa Pathway is an easy 25 to 30 minute trip, starting from Willowbank Path in the south to Kenepuru Station. You can jump off at any point to check out the shopping centre, recreational areas, parks, or even jump onto a train to head to Porirua or Wellington city.

Watch out each Friday for a fun list of five great activities to do, places to explore, or things to discover in our awesome city.
