Friday Five: Celebrate Te rā o ngā Tamariki Children's Day

1. Play your way at the new Te Aro Mahana playground  

SUNDAY 3 MARCH 2024 | 10AM – 2PM | FRANK KITTS PARK  
Head to the waterfront to try out the Te Aro Mahana play area and explore the new Whetuu Maarama waka. Bring your friends and whānau and enjoy an exciting line-up of tamariki-friendly activities and kai. 

The celebrations will feature a bike obstacle course, soccer skills, kayaking, food, music, and performances for kids.

2. Explore the refreshed playground at the Botanic Garden ki Paekākā  

SUNDAY 3 MARCH 2024 | 10AM – 2PM | BOTANIC GARDEN KI PAEKĀKĀ 
Bring your friends and whānau along to try out the new Botanic Garden ki Paekākā playground and celebrate with fun activities, kai, and exclusive deals. 

There will be giant bubbles and chalk art, and once you've worked up an appetite you can take advantage of 2-for-1 kids pizza at the Cable Car Eatery or a free kids menu item with the purchase of a main menu item at Picnic Cafe.

3. Go on a journey with free Cable Car rides for tamariki - plus free face painting!

Take advantage of free Cable Car rides all day for tamariki aged 5 to15 years old with a paying adult. Enjoy the light show as you go through the two 100-metre long tunnels, and enjoy the beautiful views at the top. To make the day even more special, complimentary face painting will be available in the Kelburn Terminal from 11am to 2pm.

4. Capital E Children's Day 

This special event celebrates the uniqueness of tamariki and their limitless futures. Bring the whole whānau down to the harbour, where you can enjoy a variety of performances and activities inside Nōku te Ao Capital E and under the Queens Wharf sails.     

There will be NZSL interpretations throughout the day.

5. Make time to celebrate what kids do best and play their way! 

Wellington has everything from rugged coasts to sandy beaches, thick woodland to wide open spaces, high hilltops to trickling streams. Giving our tamariki the freedom to play in nature has been proven to have huge benefits like building confidence, encouraging physical activity and reducing stress.
