Glover Park set for a refresh

Work has started in the area, beginning with the south-western corner of the park first (outside The Rogue & Vagabond), so that it is the first space in the park to be completed in November for the start of the busy Summer period. The rest of Glover Park is expected to be fully completed by December 2022. 

These upgrades at Glover Park have been initiated as part of the renewal program across Wellington Parks. This will mean less future maintenance and include:  

• Complete resurfacing through the centre of the park to increase accessibility and safety. 
• Replacing the tiered tiles with a more stable plastered surface. 
• Installing new brighter lighting at the Ghuznee Street entrance to the park. 
• Installing new benches. 
• New rubbish bins. 
• Maintenance on the sculpture in the middle of the park ‘Everything is for the best in the best possible words.’ 

John Filmore Construction Ltd will be carrying out these works, as they are already currently onsite completing the works of the Swan Lane and Garrett Street upgrade.

Throughout the works on Glover Park, pedestrian access between Ghuznee Street and Garrett Street will continue where possible. It is expected there will be a period from mid-September to mid-November, where access will be unavailable.  

All trees and other greenery will remain in the park.

Upgrades to the park were last done in 2006.

Glover Park is named after Lewis Glover, a retired trades union secretary, who left a bequest the Council for the purpose of 'a park to be established within the vicinity of the city to be used for recreation purposes’. Lewis Glover died in January 1964, and Glover Park was opened in 1971.
