Friday Five: Fun and free school holiday activities

Stuck for what to do with the kids these school holidays and don’t want to break the bank? Well look no further. Here’s five great free things to do in our city between 17 April and 2 May.

1. Te Papa’s free school holiday activities

Sat 17 April - Sun 2 May | Various locations throughout Te Papa

Jump into the fun at Te Papa these school holidays with their free activities for little ones. Their whānau-friendly events are designed just for children accompanied by adults.

2. Get nerdy at our libraries!

Sat 17 April - Sun 2 May | Wellington City Libraries

Wellington City Libraries invites tamariki to join them for General Nerdery all through the holiday period. Whatever you get nerdy about, there’s something for everyone at your local library during this school holiday! Find out what’s on where on the WCL website.

3. Calling all graphic, zine and comic artists and fans!

1-2pm, Saturday 17 April | Johnsonville Library, 34 Moorefield Rd, Johnsonville

Come along to Johnsonville Library this Saturday to hear from one of Aotearoa’s most distinctive and unique graphic artists, Tara Black and the talented and versatile cartoonist Dylan Horrocks. Part workshop, part overview, part discussion. Join us for what promises to be a fabulous, informative, and entertaining event.

4. Explore our walkways

Check out our list of our accessible walks in Wellington reserves that are suitable for people of all abilities. There’s also free guided buggy walks in a different suburb every third Thursday of the month – the next is the Worser Bay walk on Thursday 22 April, with a children’s playground situated at the half way point of the walk.

5. Celebrate our wild Wellington

Friday 30 April - Monday 3 May 2021

Wellington is teeming with wildlife, from mountains to the sea. Celebrate all our city has to offer by taking part in the City Nature Challenge. The aim is to find out which city can spot the greatest number of wild species, find the most diversity of species and engage the most observers. Just download the iNaturalist app and join the challenge here.
