Get ready for a great weekend at Gardens Magic

Folk rock, post-rock with a classical twist, and acoustic Americana with Celtic hints are in this weekend’s Gardens Magic music line-up.

Looking through fairy lights down at a large crowd of people sitting on the lawn at the Botanic Garden summer festival, Gardens Magic, surrounded by flowers and trees.

Gardens Magic runs every night (apart from Mondays) until the end of January. Performances begin at 8pm each night.

Tonight (Friday), at the Botanic Garden Soundshell, you can hear Grumblewood, Jaz and Danica Bryant for a night of melodic sweet folk and rock.

Then on Saturday, be spellbound by Jim Wisp and Orangefarm with a mix of indie post-rock with a classical twist.

On Sunday, T Bone and Across the Great Divide will treat you to Acoustic Americana with a Celtic spirit – promising to be a lively night of world sounds.

But you might want to secure your possie early. On the opening night people were lucky to find a spot on the grass to watch the opening band OdESSA, it was that busy!

Gardens Magic Event Manager Delia Shanly says it has been awesome to see so much enthusiasm from the community.

“With beaming sunshine in Wellington all week, we have been delighted to see the crowd’s happy faces at Gardens Magic every night. It's always been Wellington’s favourite event to kick off the summer, and we’ve been pleased to see the 1000s of Wellingtonians here having fun in the sun.”

The event also includes the magical light display by MJF Lighting from 9-10.30pm, and an outdoor gallery of temporary public art for sale by Wellington sculptors Jonathan Campbell and Campbell Maud.

The Wellington City Libraries team are also on site giving away pre-loved books and magazines each night before the concert starts.

So grab your whānau and friends early to grab your picnic spot and shimmy on down to enjoy the magic.
