Trade parking coupons are long-established within Wellington. They allow trades people to park their goods vehicle near to their place of work, and vehicles that clearly display a validated coupon get an exemption to parking restrictions in the central city and inner-city suburbs.
Paper-based coupons and digital permits systems will run simultaneously until Wednesday 31 December 2025. The last day to buy paper coupons will be 30 September 2025.
All purchased paper coupons must be used before the end of the year, as there will be no refunds or transfers to digital permits for unused coupons.
Transitioning from paper-based coupons to digital trade parking permits will streamline the approach to monitoring and enforcing parking restrictions effectively. It will support the broader goals of the Parking Policy for Wellington city and its surrounding suburbs, including the move towards the use of improved technology to monitor and enforce parking.
Trade permits will be electronic and activated online. A vehicle licence plate will serve as the permit. It will grant the vehicle access to a parking space and authorise the vehicle to be parked for either a full or half day.
The price for a trade parking permit will remain the same, ranging from $18.50 for a suburban permit to $51 for a full day inner city weekday permit.
Trade customers will be able to purchase and activate trade permits using the online platform Whakatutuki to access and manage your Council services, or by calling 04 499 4444.
