Didn't enrol or update by 1 August? You can still vote!

We know life gets busy and sometimes important dates can slip by. If that’s you, and you didn’t enrol to vote by 1 August, or if you’ve moved and forgot to update your address, don’t stress! Here’s what you can do to receive your voting documents for this year’s local election.

What you need to do

You can still enrol to vote in local elections up until 5pm on 10 October 2025 – but enrolling after 1 August means you won’t receive your voting papers in the mail. Instead, you’ll need to cast a special vote between 9 September – 11 October (midday) 2025. A special vote can be picked up at one of our special voting locations or posted to you on request.

Who can cast a special vote

You might need to cast a special vote if:

  • you enrolled after 1 August 2025
  • you are living at a new address for a month or more and have updated your address after 1 August 2025.

Or, if:

  • you don't receive your voting papers in your letterbox by 22 September 2025
  • you lose or damage your voting papers
  • you are on the unpublished (confidential) electoral roll.
