Reduce, reuse, and recycle at Te Aro Zero Waste

Here’s how you can use the space to reduce, reuse, and recycle in your daily life.

Reduce

Have an item of clothing that has a hole or a broken zip? Or a piece of tech that needs a tune up? Repairing rather than buying new is a great way to take climate action in your own life – and learn new skills along the way.

Te Aro Zero Waste have bookable resources via their RepairED programme. Instead of purchasing new items, you can borrow and hire tools, use the spaces sewing machines, or set up at one of their repair stations. 

RepairEd also runs events like the repair cafe and Just Sew Fixing events. You can come along whenever suits and have a go at repairing on your own or make a booking if you want some support from an expert. For information on upcoming events at Te Aro Zero Waste, visit their events page.

By learning how to repair items, you can reduce waste by extending the lifespan of the things you have. The Zero Waste Shop is building a culture of sustainability in Pōneke, helping to divert more materials from landfill, and keeping our city cleaner with minimal emissions.

Reuse

Twice a month Te Aro Zero Waste holds collection days for people who want to donate larger items to the Tip Shop but don’t have a vehicle to take it out there themselves. 

You’re also able to buy preloved goods such as laptops, household appliances, and fabrics. By embracing reuse, we keep valuable resources in circulation and cut down on the need for new production.

Recycle

Te Aro Zero Waste is a space to recycle materials that have reached the end of their life and cannot be collected via kerbside recycling. 

You’re able to pop in and easily recycle:
• electrical and electronic products 
• plastic and metal lids  
• metals  
• silicone 
• batteries 
• car seats.

Te Aro Zero Waste is located on Forresters Lane, just off Tory Street. Pop into the friendly space from Wednesday to Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm to help build a stronger zero-waste culture in central Pōneke, and help divert waste from our from landfill!
