Go wild and treat yourself with Welly Walks

Need an incentive to hit the trails around Wellington? Grab the whānau and head into the great outdoors on Saturday 27 or Sunday 28 January for a special treat.

In a collaboration between the six councils in the Wellington region and WellingtonNZ, Welly Walks is back and bigger than ever before. Six of the region’s diverse network of trails will be stocked with foodie prizes in specially marked Welly Walks boxes.  Head out, find the box, grab a treat supplied by Wellington businesses and keep on enjoying the amazing trails close to the city and beyond. Treats will be placed in the box at 9am each day.

While there are hundreds of fantastic trails around Wellington that lead to waterfalls, watering holes, incredible views and picnic spots, just six have been selected for treat boxes.

They are:

  • Ōtari-Wilton’s Bush, Wellington City
  • Te Ara Piko, Porirua
  • Kowhai St Track, Lower Hutt
  • Tane’s Track, Upper Hutt
  • Waikanae River Trail, Kāpiti Coast
  • Greytown to Woodside Trail, Wairarapa.

Wellingtonians exploring the Ōtari-Wilton’s Bush track will be in for a treat with the popular Fix and Fogg peanut butter to be found in the treat box.

There’s also an additional prize up for grabs. Follow @findyourwildnz on Instagram before 31 Jan to also go in the draw to win prizes worth $1000. There are three opportunities to win, including a Wairarapa getaway at Parehua Resort in Martinborough and vouchers to local businesses.

You can find more trails to explore and information on length, accessibility, degree of difficulty and highlights on the Wellington Regional Trails website.
