Welly Walks: Week one

#WellyWalks is back for summer! Every week, we’ll share the walk of the week so you can find out where to go and what treats you can find from local Wellington businesses. Check out where the first walk will be.

This walk is a Wellington favourite for locals and visitors alike. It offers up stunning views of the harbour and the Wellington skyline, and if you’re lucky, you might be able to see the South Island on a clear day.

To begin this #WellyWalk, head to Khandallah Pool on Woodmancote Road and start following the path past the playground in the park.

Continue to follow the main path into the bush.

This will take you up flights of stairs with the occasional steep incline. We recommend wearing sturdy shoes and brining a bottle of water on this walk!

The walk up will take around 20 to 30 minutes to get to the top of Mount Kaukau, where you’ll walk out onto open farmland. The views of the city and the skyline walkway will be absolutely worth the mahi!

When you’re there, look around the beautiful scenes for the #WellyWalks box, which will have treats from Khandallah local Parson’s Cafe. They’ve been baking up a storm for this week’s treat and are known by locals for fresh pies, sandwiches, baked goods, and of course coffee.

Now that you know where to go, keep an eye on Instagram or Facebook to unlock the secret code then head out to the trail above from 9am on Saturday 10 December. Unlock the treat box with the secret code to get your prize!
