Pōneke arts scene on show

This eclectic exhibition is run by Toi Pōneke Arts Centre artists and Wellington City Council, and is held for artists at the centre to showcase their creative contributions to the Wellington arts scene.  

This year artists, designers, photographers, makers, and crafters have chosen larger pieces of work that exemplify their current practice, giving visitors the opportunity to explore a range of creative outputs from jewellery to neon lightwork.

Not only is it a chance for them to celebrate the work they create and perfect in the studios, but it’s a chance for the artists to come together, says artist Laura Woodward. 

“Sometimes we can be like ships in the night. That’s why it’s so wonderful to see everyone’s work on show together. The best way to get to know an artist is to see their work – it tells you a lot more than small talk!” 

It also gives visitors a chance to experience local art in a range of mediums, says Laura. 

“It is unusual to have so many different art forms in one show, yet Toi Pōneke does it regularly and does it well. It reflects the talent of local Wellington artists working in the building, and the beautiful diversity of creativity in the city.” 

The exhibition runs until 14 October for all to enjoy.
