Friday Five: Ways to make someone’s day

It’s the thought that counts – sometimes all it takes is a small act of kindness to make someone’s day. Here’s a list of things you can do to show someone you care.

1. Share a sweet treat

How good is a flaky and buttery treat when you’re feeling down? Cheer someone up by popping into a bakery to get them a delicious treat. WellingtonNZ have put together a list of the best artisan bakeries in Wellington.

2. Give someone a shout out

Know someone who is doing great things for their community? Nominate them for the Wellington City Council Absolutely Positively Wellingtonian Awards. This award honours members of the community who have made an outstanding or lengthy contribution to the capital and its people. Nominations close 5pm, Friday 24 June, 2022.

Or, you can nominate a community group for the Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards. The focus of the awards is to celebrate volunteers for their valuable contribution to society.

3. Raise the mood with unbeatable views

Fresh air and great views work wonders when you need a pick-me-up. Know someone who could benefit from spending time in nature? Invite them to walk one of the amazing tracks that Pōneke has to offer.

4. Fill your cup at the local market

Fresh fruit and vegetables, delicious food stalls, cute pups and waterfront views – head to the Harbourside Market every Sunday and meet the colourful characters that bring Wellington’s favourite market to life. It’s bound to make anyone smile.

5. Spread the love with baking

Good Bitches Baking is all about spreading a bit of sweetness in our communities. It aims to give a moment of happiness to people going through a tough time. This initiative started in Wellington, and is now all across Aotearoa with baked goods going to different charities working with those having a tough time.
