Friday Five: School's out - scream and shout!

The term two school holidays are here! We’ve got plenty of ideas to keep you and your tamariki entertained over the winter break.

1. Skate into the break 

Paradice Events ice skating rink opens on Saturday 10 July on Queens Wharf and is the perfect wintery day out for the whole whānau.

The rink will be open until Sunday 8 August.

2. Hooray for holiday programmes! 

There are loads of holiday programmes available at our recreation centres, libraries, swimming pools and at Wellington Zoo, Capital E and Wellington Museum. 

Whether your tamariki are keen on basketball, crazy about crafts, mad for mammals or huge on history, we’ve got you sorted.

3. Kids go free at Zealandia this July 

Tamariki can visit Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne for free this month, just in time for the school holidays! 

There's plenty on in the valley, including Rainbow Storytime with the fabulous Hugo Grrrl, Eva Goodfun, and Willy SmacknTush on Tuesday 13 and Tuesday 20 July from 11am to 12pm. 

It’s perfect for kids aged 2-10 years, and it’s free! 

4. Host a Teddy Bears’ Picnic

Did you know that Saturday 10 July is Teddy Bears’ Picnic Day? Why not celebrate with the little people in your life by planning a picnic and playing outdoors in one of our gardens! 

We’d love to know where you end up, so while you’re out, snap a pic of your teddy and share it with us by tagging ‘@wgtncc’ on Instagram or ‘@wellingtoncitycouncil’ on Facebook.

5. Whānau fun at City Gallery Wellington

There’s plenty on at City Gallery to keep your little artist entertained. 

Art Camp, their school holiday programme is running from Monday 12 to Thursday 15 July, and it's suited for tamariki aged 5-12.

Then head to Family Day for fun portrait-themed art activities for the whole whānau on Saturday 17 July – the perfect way to finish the week.
