This year’s event focuses on three climate challenges – waste, transport and food systems – chosen for their impact and urgency for Wellington.
Climathon kicks-off this Friday night with a welcome from Wellington City Councillor Tamatha Paul, Climate Change Portfolio Lead.
“Wellington City Council is proud to be an ongoing supporter of Climathon because the ideas and projects which have come from this event have not only contributed to emissions reductions in real time, but have also improved the lifestyles of Wellingtonians from all different walks of life.”
During the 24-hour event participants form teams around an idea, validate and test these ideas and then pitch to a panel of judges who award prizes, specifically chosen to help take their idea to the next level.
Councillor Laurie Foon, one of this year’s judges, was previously the Wellington Manager for the Sustainable Business Network and is committed to supporting and sharing knowledge with any business wanting to balance its impact on communities and the environment.
Previous Climathon success stories in Wellington include Reusabowl, RefillNZ, The Tiny Plastic Factory and Collaborate.
