Fees

The Archives is free of charge for visitors to complete historical research. Fees apply on the some services. Booking is essential.

Archives research

You can hire a staff member to undertake your research. The fee is $27.50 per half hour (payable in advance). To find out how staff can help, submit a Queries and Requests Form.

Building plan

For building plans, permits or consent records for commercial purposes or because you are buying or altering a house, use the Council's Building Plan Search Service.

Photocopying

You can't remove archive materials from the building. Staff photocopy archive documents on site; however, some documents are too fragile to photocopy.

Black and white copying prices:

  • A0 copy $8.50
  • A1 copy $4.50
  • A2 copy $4.50
  • A3 copy $0.80
  • A4 copy $0.50

For colour copying prices, contact the Archives.

Photographic reproductions

Reproductions of photographs in the Archives collection are provided in digital format on CD.

  • High resolution images (publication quality, 5000 pixels along the longest edge) - $37.50 each
  • Standard resolution images (reference quality only, 300 pixels per inch or less) - $18.50 each

LGOIMA and LGA requests

Wellington City Archives charge for archive items requested under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA) and Local Government Act (LGA).

Complete a Queries and Requests Form to discuss your search request with staff.
