This scheme supports and encourages local arts activities.
This scheme is a partnership between Wellington City Council and Creative New Zealand.
Every year Creative New Zealand provides money to councils to support local arts activities. Any individual, group or organisation can apply.
Various types of projects are considered for these grants, such as workshops, performances, exhibitions, short-term arts events, and arts-related promotional activities.

Projects seeking funding from this scheme should meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Broad community involvement - the project creates opportunities for local communities to engage with and take part in arts activities.
- Diversity - the project supports the diverse arts and cultural traditions of local communities, enriching and promoting their uniqueness and cultural diversity.
- Young people - the project enables and encourages young people (under 18 years) to engage with and actively participate in the arts.
To be eligible for funding, projects must take place within the Wellington city rate-paying area (includes Tawa, but not Lower and Upper Hutt or Porirua). Projects already receiving Creative New Zealand funding are not eligible. Contact the Grants Advisor if you intend to apply to the Creative Communities Scheme and any CreativeNZ fund.
