Khandallah Park

This park is part of one of the largest areas of continuous native forest in the city. It features 9 km of walking tracks in 60 ha of bush.

Location: Khandallah.

Entrance and exit points: Woodmancote Road, Clark Street or Simla Crescent in Khandallah.

Brief description: Khandallah Park is well-known for its walking tracks to Mount Kaukau and the Skyline and Northern Walkways. The park is part of one of the largest areas of continuous native forest in the city, which is recognised as a key native ecosystem. It has more than nine kilometres of tracks winding through 60 hectares of dense bush.

Parking: Large car parks in Woodmancote Road and Clark Street.

Accessibility: The walk to Mount Kaukau takes about an hour and is steep in places, but the tracks are well-formed and there are seats on which to rest on the way. The easiest route to the summit is via the Northern Walkway from Simla Crescent.

Dogs: Dogs must be kept on a leash.

Mountain bikes: Not permitted. 

Features: The popular outdoor Khandallah Summer Pool is at the Woodmancote Road entrance. The pool is in bush surroundings and includes a picnic area beside a stream, and a popular children's playground. A café is also located near the park entrance.

History: Khandallah Park became a domain in 1909, and is one of New Zealand’s oldest reserves.
