Follow the Southern Walkway from Melrose Park along the ridge toward the summit. At the water reservoir a four-wheel drive track leads to the hockey stadium. A side track off this leads back to Melrose Park. The walk goes behind Wellington Zoo, giving views of Cook Strait. It also includes Four Cross Track - a specialised mountain bike downhill race track, suitable for those at an intermediate level.

Start from the car park at Melrose Park and follow the signs for the Southern Walkway. This takes you across the sports field and behind Wellington Zoo. Beyond the sports field walk up and along the zoo fenceline. When you reach the top of the slope continue walking around the hill following the south coast and Mt Albert signs.

Follow this track all the way along the western slopes. When you reach the antennae and reservoir area follow the signs for Mt Victoria along the ridgeline. Follow the Southern Walkway back to Melrose Park.
