Location: Ngaio Gorge, Ngaio
Entrance and exit points: Bottom of Ngaio Gorge Road, Kaiwharawhara Road, Trelissick Crescent, Waikowhai Street, Hanover Street and Oban Street.
Brief description: The Northern Walkway also runs through the park from Waikowhai Street to Hanover Street in Wadestown. This walkway skirts the side of the valley high above the stream, passing remnants of the original forest.
The park also contains the Trelissick Park Loop as well as the Sanctuary to Sea Walkway, which takes you through Ōtari-Wilton’s Bush, Karori Cemetery and on to Zealandia/Karori Wildlife Sanctuary.
Parking: Limited parking at Kaiwharawahra Road entrance, Trelissick Crescent, Waikowhai Street, Hanover Street and Oban Street.
Accessibility: Well-formed tracks, but steep in places.
Dogs: This is an off-leash dog exercise area.
Mountain biking: Not permitted.
Features: The park is ecologically important as it contains a relatively intact urban stream and is a corridor for bird life. Trelissick Park Group plays a large role in restoring the area.
History: The park was once a route for Māori and early Europeans travelling from the harbour to Porirua.
Near the bottom of track there are historic gunpowder magazines dating from the 1870s.
Trelissick Park is named after the Cornish estates of Captain Daniell, who settled in Ngaio in the 1880s.
